Itty Bitty Kiddie Grudges

My best friend from high school decided to post a note on Facebook to get some things off her chest. They were about grudges-why some are hard to let go and why others aren't.

It's amazing how a topic can turn into an internet "brawl." Apparently, an old classmate holds a grudge with me and most of our classmates from elementary school. Wow! Kids are kids. We are unfortunately mean to one other, but we grow up and learn to forgive. I admit, kids are mean. I was probably a mean kid myself. When I told my mother this story, she was a bit surprised. I was a very shy and quiet child. She couldn't imagine how I could have ever spoken up or have ever been mean to this person. Perhaps I was mean, but I'm sorry. I think all of us that have done mean things as kids, grow up and are ashamed of the things that we had done.

Anyway, I made a general comment by saying "sometimes people need to get over it and grow up." By "people," I truly meant it in the most general way I could...not directly toward this "person." Apparently, she still holds this grudge toward me:

"Hmm, well, perhaps you know best. You were there and participated, after all. Or maybe you should consider the effect of 9 years of hell on a child's life."

All I can say is that whatever this person may feel toward me, I'm sorry. You can't judge a person for who they are as an adult by the decisions they made as a kid. People change. They grow up. Some don't, obviously. But most do. Maybe one day that person can let go and move on and still find the good memories in childhood. I know there are lots there somewhere.

So... why is this person your friend on facebook if she apparently is still pissed at you!? People are so flipping weird and childish!

She isn't. She was responding to a "note" that another friend of ours wrote about grudges. We both made comments. She lashed out on me when I made a general comment.
